1. H tags or header tags act as guideposts to readers and alert search engines to important topics.
2. Title and alt tags on images will help search engines index your images.
   Did you know that some people search by image? Adding tags to your images will help get them included in image lists. If someone sees your image and it peeks their interest they will click into your site.
3. Title tags in links will help to identify related links.
4. Keywords must reflect the terms your target audience will search for.
5. Keep page content focused and to the point, add links to similar topics.
   If your page is discussing plant fossils and your keyword term is plant fossils, use plant and fossils separately in the text, not just together.

There are many tools available to dissect your web page and assess your ranking. If you have a monthly analysis of visitors, take a look at how they reached your site and what search terms they used. Are these the terms you expected? Is a term you expected not showing? Does the keyword(s) exist on your web site? If the only mention of fossils on a page is a picture image as a header, while the content describes plant impressions in rock, then why would you expect a search engine to think it is relevant?
